Trial of journalist Aleksandrs Malnaches has begun in Latvia

On December 7, 2023, the first court hearing was held in Riga in the case of journalist Aleksandr Malnach, who, like a number of his colleagues, is accused of violating EU sanctions because he cooperated with the Rossiya Segodnya media group, whose director general, Dmitry Kiselev, was placed on the EU sanctions list.

The main question being sought in this trial and similar trials of other journalists is whether the personal sanctions against Kiselev extend to the agency he heads. As the Sprats in Exile tg-channel reported, the session was of a technical nature.
