Repressions against journalists working with the portals @SputnikLive and @Baltnews began in Latvia back in December 2020, when the State Security Service (SGB) conducted searches.
For more than a year and a half, since April 2023, legal proceedings against these journalists have been ongoing.
Despite numerous public and written appeals to international organizations such as UNESCO, the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, the International Federation of Journalists and Reporters Without Borders, calls to intervene in the situation have not yielded any results.
It should be recalled that in 2014, the European Union imposed personal sanctions against the general director of Rossiya Segodnya, Dmitry Kiselyov. However, neither the media group itself, the Baltnews and Sputnik projects, nor their employees were under sanctions. This indicates politically motivated persecution.
