Sergei Sidorov, accused of espionage and incitement to hatred, was detained again in Latvia

On May 13, 2024, officers of the Latvian State Security Service again detained Sergejs Sidorovs, who is accused of espionage and incitement to hatred.

Sidorov's house was searched, as a result of which data carriers and 5 thousand euros were seized. This money to pay for Sidorov's lawyer was brought from Russia by his classmate Svetlana, who was also detained. Sergei's sister specially saved this money to help her brother and gave it to Svetlana in the hope that it would be possible to pay for the lawyer's services and prove her brother's innocence.

We would like to remind you that the State Security Service assumes that Sidorov collected information for the Baltic Antifascists channel based in Russia, which could be used against the interests of Latvia's national security. The case file mentions messages with information about the location of warships, the drone range in Balozhie, as well as photos of cars in Uzvaras Park during the dismantling of the Liberators' Monument.

Sidorov himself admitted the connection with Antifascists member Viktoria Matule, but maintains that his messages did not contain confidential information and were not directed at anti-state activities.

Sidorov was arrested on August 17, 2023, but in mid-December the court changed the preventive measure to a more lenient one.

On May 15, the next court hearing in the case of Sergei Sidorov was to be held.
