Shestakov is accused of writing articles for internationally operating Russian online publications analyzing missile strikes on Ukrainian military infrastructure. The publicist has already been branded an agent of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service and accused of information sabotage against Ukraine. The journalist faces life imprisonment.
Viktor Feofanovich Shestakov, born in 1966 in Verny (Alma-Ata), is a descendant of Semirechensk Cossacks. He is a historian and publicist, author of several books devoted to Field Marshal General I.F. Paskevich and Russian explorers of Central Asia. Together with Y.V. Pogoda and V.A. Artamonov, he realized the book-information project “Sobornoe Opinion about Mazepa” - the main counter-propaganda work directed against neo-Mazepinism.
