The leader of the Russian Union of Latvia (RUL), member of the European Parliament Tatiana Zhdanok, as well as RUL co-chairman Miroslav Mitrofanov were interviewed by the Latvian State Security Service (SSS), where the politicians were to report on certain contacts with Russian security services, Latvian TV reported. After the conversation, Zhdanok herself called a press conference.
"Investigator Buls invited me to the State Security Service," Zhdanok said, adding that she could not divulge the content of the conversation.
Mitrofanov, for his part, said it was "just a conversation." Interior Minister Richard Kozlovskis said that the SGB should assess whether Zhdanok's actions have signs of a criminal offense. The minister said nothing about the criminal act of the so-called media involved in the hacking of Zhdanok's e-mail and possible libel (according to Zhdanok, at least part of the reports and accusations are simply made up).
"If there are signs of a criminal offense, I have no doubt that the SSS will take action," Kozlovskis said.
