Russian anti-fascist, historian Vlad Bogov, who escaped persecution from Latvia to Russia, has died

At the end of 2022, historian Vlad Bogov was forced to move with his wife and two young children to Pskov. He started working as a senior researcher at the Pskov Museum-Reserve, became active in public life again, continued to study and describe the atrocities of Latvian and Estonian collaborators in the territories of Russia and Belarus bordering the Baltic States.

On October 16 Bogov felt ill and was urgently taken to the hospital with the diagnosis of "stroke". The best doctors of the city fought for his life, but in the morning Vlad Bogov died. Apparently, he was worried about the move and the situation with Russians in his native Latvia.

He was only 47 years old.

We saw Vlad just a few days ago in St. Petersburg. He came to the XI Baltic Forum of Compatriots. Since it coincided with a vacation (Vlad worked as a senior researcher at the Pskov Museum-Reserve), Vlad took his wife and two small children with him. He stayed with them for a day in St. Petersburg after the forum.


After actually fleeing to Pskov, Vlad did not break down, but continued doing what he loved - history. He studied under a microscope the atrocities of colaborers - Latvian and Estonian SS legionnaires in Russia and Belarus. He wrote articles about it, based on documents from various archives. Published in "Pskovskaya Pravda", books and collections on history. He did not leave the subject of Salaspils concentration camp - he was almost the last historian who studied Nazi atrocities in this death camp in such depth. The Latvian authorities started to call it just a labor camp. Because of this, Vlad was very worried.


And Vlad was also running around with all sorts of ideas. One of them was an exhibition of photo works by war correspondents from the NWO zone. He turned to me, but I couldn't help him. Then he found another option. The other day he happily informed me that he had reached an agreement with the city administration and the exhibition would be held on February 22 next year.

He boasted that after St. Petersburg he would go to Minsk - the Prosecutor General of Belarus personally invited him to a conference to be held in early December. Vlad started a new life and felt needed again - he was invited to the central Russian channels as an expert.

Vlad was only 47 years old. And, by the way, his full name was Vladimir. I was surprised to learn this when he came to me for an interview at the Zubovsky studio - I had to issue a pass... He said that many years ago he had invented such a pseudonym for himself, and it had stuck. This is the interview. Goodbye, Vlad, you have done a lot for Russians in Latvia and continued to help people in Russia. You were a modest and surprisingly calm person, but in your heart you took everything too personally. My condolences to all who loved Vlad, knew him, were friends and respected him.

His wife and children (2 years old and 7 years old) stay in Pskov, where they have no relatives. People who could help them. They live on a rented apartment. And the developer of the new house, where the Bogovs planned to live, went bankrupt. And they have nothing of their own. Vlad's wife Maria is still unemployed.
