On June 7, 2024, the Latvian State Security Service (SSS) requested the prosecutor's office to initiate criminal proceedings against former MEP Andrejs Mamykin for possibly glorifying and justifying Russia's war crimes in Ukraine.
The criminal case against Mamykin was initiated on September 29, 2023 under Article 74.1 of the Criminal Law, after analyzing his statements made on the air of several pro-Russian TV channels and on social media. In particular, last September 21, in the program "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" on Russia 1 TV channel, Mamykin said that Russia "is doing a great and sacred deed in Ukraine."
The Latvian State Security Service has put Mamykin on a wanted list.
