The trial of Andrei Makarov, accused of high treason, has begun in Estonia

Tartu county court has started the trial of 38-year-old Estonian citizen Andrei Makarov, who is accused of high treason, the Baltic portal reported. According to the prosecution, Makarov set fire to cars with Ukrainian license plates, acting on instructions from Russia.

The prosecutor's office claims that Makarov tried to link his actions to the KOOS party, whose leader, Aivo Peterson, is also currently in custody. According to the investigation, Makarov has been carrying out tasks from Russia since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine.

In February last year, the emergency message center received a signal that a Hyundai car had caught fire on Aleksandri Street in Tartu. Despite the prompt actions of rescuers, the engine compartment of the car with Ukrainian license plates was completely destroyed and the interior was seriously damaged.

A month later Andrei Makarov was detained as a suspect in the arson. According to the case materials, during this time he managed to visit the Russian city of Pskov, where, according to the prosecution, he received new assignments. After that, Makarov allegedly performed similar actions on the territory of Lithuania.
