Jelena Kreile was awarded another year of imprisonment in Latvia in the third criminal case

On November 4, 2024, Riga City Court held the last word of Jelena Kreile, a housewife accused of political activities, reports journalist Aleksejs Stefanovs. The court found her guilty for the third time under Article 74.1 of the Latvian Criminal Law, which punishes justification of aggression and war crimes.

The punishment: a year in prison! The time spent by the defendant in the detention center from April 3 to December 3, 2024 will be counted in this term.

What was Elena convicted of? Don't be surprised. For installations in the window of her apartment: three bricks painted in the colors of the Russian flag, two soft toys in the same colors, a poster with the inscription “Dievs, sarga Latviju!” ("Dievs, sarga Latviju!” (“God save Latvia!”), a poster with the inscription “I am a Russian-Latvian Soviet man”, a clock with the inscription “Moscow time”, a red star (a Christmas tree topper bought in a supermarket), a figure of a devil (“Kinder-surprise”) with the inscription “policija” on its back and a Russian flag in its hand, and other similar handicrafts.

In Latvia today, such things are not even fined, but sent straight to prison. The pre-war dictator Ulmanis must have turned over in his coffin several times, wondering, “Was it possible to do that?”

This is the third court case against Jelena Kreile. In the first case, she received a year in prison (the appeal was lost and the sentence was upheld), in the second case - three years in prison (the case is on appeal, which will continue in February), and now - another year in prison.

The Latvian authorities, seeing that Jelena Kreile is not going to bend to them and continues to call for peace and harmony in Latvia, as well as friendship between peoples, decided to break her. And today's trial is one more proof of that.
