Finnish activist Katja Kokkoniemi asked for political asylum in Russia

Katja Kokkoniemi, a resident of Finland, wants to ask for political asylum in Russia, Russian World reports. She has recorded a video message to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Her activity in recent years is connected with Russia, for two years she has been bringing aid to wounded Russian soldiers in St. Petersburg, visiting them in hospitals.

Katja Kokkoniemi, together with a group of Finnish tourists, politicians and scientists, visited St. Petersburg in the fall of 2022. The trip was initially positioned as an informational and tourist trip. Professors and representatives of some political parties came to the Northern Capital, wishing to see with their own eyes the real situation in Russia.

According to Katja Kokkoniemi, after her return from St. Petersburg to Finland, she was “hunted” by the police, Finnish social services and officials. All her relatives were interrogated, turned against her, and then she was sent to a psychiatric hospital for four months.

The woman noted that she feared for her safety - because of her pro-Russian stance she was subjected to threats and intimidation.
