Lithuanian prosecutor's office asks to add one more year and a month to the sentence of political prisoner Algirdas Paleckis

Prosecutor Tomas Stelionis, in his speech at Kaunas District Court, called for Algirdas Paleckis to be found guilty of libel and sentenced to seven months in prison, the Baltic portal reported. For insulting the memory of the “Forest Brothers” and belittling crimes against humanity, the prosecutor suggested that he be sentenced to one year and one month in prison.

Taking into account previous sentences, Stelionis is demanding two years and eight months in prison for Paleckis. Paleckis, who is in prison, pleaded not guilty and said that he did not go beyond criticism. His lawyer asked for his client to be acquitted.

A video published by Paleckis alleged that the Seimas National Security and Defense Committee is a “Nazi committee” and that Kasciunas seeks to restrict media freedom. According to the indictment, Paleckis passed on this information from prison and Nakas published it on the YouTube channel ekspertai.eu.

In addition, Paleckis is accused of belittling participants of Lithuania's armed resistance to the Soviet occupation and crimes against humanity.

Kasčiūnas, Nakas, Maldeikis, Kuzmickienė and Žilvinas Razminas have previously testified in this case.
