Latvian businessman Bružuks, 75, was given half a year in prison for distributing videos

Juris Bružuks, a successful Latvian entrepreneur and owner of the Viola-Stils company, was given six months in prison for distributing videos with military content, journalist Alexei Stefanov reports.

“Bružuks' arrest was swift and was more like eliminating a competitor. Perhaps it was a classic order. Eliminate physically would be expensive and dangerous - in case the killer will burn, and so under the general comb of political why not. After all, people also work in the State Security Service, and they have families, children...,” Stefanov wrote.

The businessman, previously respected in business circles and had ties with the highest ranks of Latvia, pleaded guilty and made a deal with the prosecutor's office. As a result, he received six months in prison.

Public activist Karajevs said Bruzhuks was arrested for sending videos about the war posted on the Internet more than a year and a half before the incident. According to some reports, the arrest was initiated by an MP from Jekabpils.

Karayev believes that in such situations one should not admit guilt without sufficient grounds and make a deal with the investigation.

“One should not make a deal and sit guilt-free. This looks especially stupid when a person who personally knows Latvian presidents and owns considerable capital makes a deal,” Karajevs said.
